Alice Walker and East Bay Meditation Center co-founder Spring Washam joined Aimee Allison on the KPFA Morning Show on Thursday, April 1st to discuss meditation for the masses. The meditation center is in downtown Oakland, designed to bring meditation to new communities like African-American women and LGBTQI groups, and holds special sessions for beginners in meditation. They also have drawing for meditation and other cool classes. Check out their website for details.

Alice Walker
Alice Walker won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel, The Color Purple . Her most recent book is We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For. Coming in 2010 are The World Has Changed: Conversations With Alice Walker, and Overcoming Speechlessness; A Poet Encounters the Horror of Rwanda, Congo, and Palestine/Israel . Due in 2012 is: Hard Times Require Furious Dancing: A Year of Poems . An activist and social visionary, Ms. Walker has been a participant in most of the major movements of planetary change
Jack Kornfield
Trained as a Buddhist monk, Jack Kornfield is co-founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, an international teacher, and author of numerous books including The Wise Heart; After the Ecstasy, the Laundry; Buddha’s Little Instruction Book; Soul Food: Stories to Nourish the Spirit and the Heart and A Path with Heart.
The Scottish Rite Center is wheelchair accessible.
ASL interpretation services will be provided at this event for the deaf community.
