OaklandSeen went deep undercover last week, emerging at Brown Sugar Kitchen on Mandela Parkway in West Oakland. We found fabulous food, funny friends, and…funky fashion! We saw hella hotties, rockin’ hyphy hoodies… representin’ the ‘Town in “fits” concocted from vintage duds and accessories.

Obama’s Silicon Valley visit ignored communities in need
On Thursday, President Obama swung through the Bay Area to meet with Silicon Valley tech bigwigs. No one disputes that Silicon Valley is important, but a Presidential visit to Oakland would have been heartening.

Lots to learn at Malonga Casquelourd Arts Center (Alice at 14th Street)
Oakland’s Recreation and Parks Department supports a unique recreation/arts center in downtown Oakland. Formerly the Oakland Women’s Club, then the Alice Arts Center, the place is now known as the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts. Dance is the centerpiece of the program.
